Kdrama Kisses — DAWN (던) and HyunA (현아) for Calvin Klein

So I’m new to this world of kpop and kdrama and forgive me if this sounds like a fire starter but I think that having kids “train” from an age under 18 and “debut” is crazy. It’s child labor and no matter the pay, kids should be kids until 18 and then take on those immense pressure full time jobs… and we the consumers are a huge part of the problem too. thoughts?

I’m on cold meds so I’m pretty sure that I’m going to do a terrible job answering this… 😛 How bout I just start rambling and see what happens?

It IS rough for kids to start out in the industry young and work under intense conditions and sometimes abusive conditions with no real control over what’s happening to them. They give up their childhood and most don’t even make it to fame. When they DO they are working grueling hours and away from family. And imagine the sexism added for the girl groups.

And I am definitely part of the problem as a kpop stan…

AND

This happens everywhere, not just in kpop.

Think about child actors, boy bands in general, the whole history of the mickey mouse club where britney and justin came up from? Im sure I’m missing tons of people but the entertainment industry is a machine and a monster, no matter what country you live in.

Sure there are differences culturally and business wise in the ways that each region handles “talent,” but anytime a kid is monetized and put in the spotlight there is bound to be a lot of fallout along side the positive outcomes for some.

The moral of the story is Capitalism Kills and we all have our litmus test of what we want to support or protest since there is just so much to be worried about. “Child Labor” is literally everywhere. It doesn’t make it ok, it’s just the truth.

But if someone told me they hated the music industry (or even just kpop tho I question them leaving out all of the other stuff) because of how cruel it was I’d be like “yes, agreed!” because I do understand that, but then continue to listen to what I listen to. On the other hand, I choose to boycott That One Company owned by a space-obsessed billionaire but I understand people who have Prime and use it.

So anon, in closing? Just kidding, I have no idea how to close this question out. In fact I keep typing and deleting my final statements so I’m just gonna leave it like this! 😛
