Lighter Than Bump’Air: Shoes 53045’s Debut Sneaker

We get up close with the colossal kicks.

David Tourniaire-Beauciel’s 25 years of footwear design has yielded covetable shoes for houses like Givenchy, Stella McCartney and Maison Margiela, but none of his creations broke the internet; that is, until Tourniaire-Beauciel crafted Balenciaga’s now-unavoidable Triple-S. The towering fusion sneaker is perhaps single-handedly responsible for ushering in the recent chunky footwear craze, forging imitations from high-street brands and inspiring throwback runners from Nike.

Tourniaire-Beauciel recently stepped out from behind the curtain to premiere his latest venture: Shoes 53045, a playful experiment in maximalism. The label’s debut creation, the $400 USD Bump’Air, may be the heftiest kicks on the market today, with a stacked midsole and techy upper that revels in its own excess. We got an early look at the brightly-hued vegan shoes and were shocked to discover that the meaty sneakers were extremely lightweight and comfortable.

Thus inspired, we set out to highlight the effervescent footwear’s innate lightness by way of complementary materials: balloons, sand and, well, light. The colorways are displayed in comparable habitats, underlining the surprising versatility and slick design embedded in each bulky model. Though they may soon be abetted by trekking shoes, clunky footwear is firmly entrenched in contemporary taste — Bump’Air represents an ideal hybrid of sky-high styling and unexpected comfort.

All four colorways of the Bump’Air sneakers are now available on the Shoes 53045 website.
