Lily Rose Depp | BoF 500 | The People Shaping the Global Fashion Industry
Lily Rose Depp is currently the youngest Chanel brand ambassador to front global campaigns for the French house, acting as the most visible way to speak to the Gen-Z consumer. The daughter of actor Johnny Depp and singer-actor Vanessa Paradis, the 18-year-old has covered both British and French Vogue — being shot by
Hedi Slimane
for a joint cover with
Karl Lagerfeld
for the latter — and wears Chanel almost exclusively on the red carpet.
Depp began an acting career with a cameo role in Canadian comedy-horror flick “Tusk,” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2014. It was when she attended Chanel’s Métiers d’Art Collection show in New York with her mother and long-time Chanel ambassador Vanessa Paradis that she started making waves in the industry, attracting media attention from the likes of Vogue, Refinery29 and Harper’s Bazaar. She simultaneously rose to prominence on Instagram, quickly amassing a significant following. Today she has over 3 million followers on the platform, her only form of social media.
In September 2015, at just 16 years old, she was cast in her first Chanel campaign, fronting the brand’s pearl eyewear collection. The following year she became the face of the house’s new fragrance Chanel No.5 L’Eau, aimed at a younger millennial audience. The scent saw a boost in Chanel’s fragrance business, with a 30 percent sales gain over a three-month period. Most recently she has starred in Chanel’s Rouge Coco Gloss campaign, and the fashion house’s Autumn/Winter 2017 campaign alongside
Cara Delevingne
.
Come show season, Depp is a familiar face at Chanel spectacles. She is a regular fixture on the front row, and has also appeared on the Chanel catwalk. Her catwalk debut and first official appearance for the brand was at the casino-themed Couture Autumn 2015 show. She also walked in Cruise 2017, and closed the Couture Spring 2017 show.
In tandem with her Chanel commitments, Depp continues to act. She left school in 2016 to focus on her career, and has since appeared in “Yoga Hosers,” “La Danseuse,” co-starred alongside Natalie Portman in “Planetarium” and Timothée Chalamet in “The King.”
Depp is based in Los Angeles. She is fluent in English and French.
