Liverpool player ratings as Trent Alexander-Arnold excellent but one poor against West Ham

Alisson Becker 6

Perhaps surprised by fierce Paqueta shot for opener. Otherwise not much to do.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 8

Given opportunity to step into midfield regularly and used ball well, including assist for Gakpo. Covered well in defence in another fine outing.

PAUL GORST: Liverpool have rekindled two familiar forces but truth cannot be lost on FSG

IAN DOYLE: John Henry has just seen first hand what Liverpool need this summer

Joel Matip 7

Ensured Antonio didn’t have it all his own way first half, but escaped what appeared obvious booking. Prompted good save from Fabianksi then bulleted in header for second.

Virgil van Dijk 7

Gave ball away cheaply to Bowen early on and took risks with his passing, but alert to stop Antonio from close range and better second half.

Andy Robertson 7

Lots of attacking thrust down the flank and occasionally found himself in West Ham area. Good set-pieces deliveries led to assist for second from corner.

Fabinho 5

Easily bypassed for the West Ham opener and decision-making not always on point. A tough evening for the Brazilian.

Jordan Henderson 6

Too erratic with distribution at times and couldn’t quite inject enough tempo, but positioning helped Alexander-Arnold. Subbed.

Curtis Jones 6

Plenty of tigerish work down the left and notably playing a little higher as Liverpool dominated first-half possession, but tougher going after break although kept ball well. Subbed.

Mohamed Salah 7

Only one real attacking threat before half-time as West Ham kept him on the periphery but became an increasing problem for the hosts second half.

Cody Gakpo 7

Impressive when dropping back and linking play and thumped in an excellent equaliser from range. Subbed.

Diogo Jota 6

Took a whack in the back from Coufal but persisted. Missed a good chance before break with volley. Subbed.

Thiago Alcantara (for Henderson 59) 6

Brought on to improve passing but escaped conceding penalty for handball late on.

Luis Diaz (for Jota 59) 6

Lively cameo despite being at times triple-marked.

Darwin Nunez (for Gakpo 77) 6

Ran around a bit.

James Milner (for Jones 84)

Minutes.
