MVP: I’m Trying To Get The Hurt Business Back Together, I’d Like To Work With Carmelo Hayes

MVP is trying to get the Hurt Business back together, and he wants to potentially work with Carmelo Hayes in the future.

MVP aligned with Bobby Lashley on WWE TV in 2020, and the duo later joined forces with Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander to form The Hurt Business. The group had a successful run, as Lashley won the WWE Championship after he had a lengthy reign as the United States Champion. Benjamin and Alexander also won the RAW Tag Team Championship. The stable broke up in 2021 and briefly reunited before they went their separate ways. In recent weeks, MVP has been teasing a reunion of the group, and while Lashley has turned him down, he has paired up with Benjamin and Alexander again.

Speaking with Josh Martinez on Superstar Crossover, MVP was asked about the original plan for the breakup of The Hurt Business. He responded by stating that it was Vince McMahon’s call at the time, and while it was somewhat confusing, he’s now doing his best to get the group back together.

“[Vince McMahon makes decisions, and that’s way above my pay grade,” MVP said. “It was a decision that he made. Why he chose to do it, I have no idea. But it was his choice. He’s the boss, at the time was the boss, and that’s just his things go. We were all scratching our head, but at the end of the day, I’m doing my best to try to get the team back together.

“Bobby’s being a little stubborn, but I got Shelton and Cedric back on board with me, and I’m trying to get Bobby to get come around. So we’ll see if we can’t get the Hurt Business back in business.

When asked to name who he wants to work with, MVP emphasized that he wants to reunite The Hurt Business. He described how he thinks the stable could have great matchups with The Bloodline and The Judgment Day. MVP also stated that he’d like to work with Carmelo Hayes, as he noted that the former NXT North American Champion reminds him of a younger version of himself.

“I’d really like to get the Hurt Business back together, as a faction,” MVP said. “There are so many talented people. I’d love to get the Hurt Business versus The Bloodline, [that] would be spectacular. Bobby and Roman, the Usos with Shelton and Cedric. Me and Heyman, I think that’s a dream matchup. Judgment Day, I think we’d have some phenomenal work.

“But there’s a young man down at NXT, who, unless you’re watching NXT, you might not be familiar with him, but a young man named Carmelo Hayes. Carmelo and Trick, they’re pretty tight, and I always say, Carmelo reminds me of a young MVP. The presence, the swagger, the confidence, and he’s somebody that I would like to work with in the future, hopefully.”
