Quality of Education in Russia

In Russia, you can get fundamental knowledge in all subjects. The quality of Russian education is known all over the world.

According to a research of the UK company QS, «The Strongest Higher Education Systems by Country», Russia is well within the Top-50 and ranked 26th (the focus is not on specific universities, but on the education quality in the country along several criteria, including efficiency and accessibility).

In 2003, Russia accepted the Bologna system. After studying in a university for 4 years, the graduate takes the Bachelor’s degree; after another 2 years of study – the degree of Specialist or Master. Russia has 896 higher education institutes. Teaching staff amount is 319.3 thousand, including 45.1 thousand Doctorate Degree specialists and 174.6 thousand Ph.D specialists.

Reasons to Be Proud

Russian modern scientists often receive awards and prizes, including international ones, in different spheres:

  • Artem Oganov, graduate of Moscow State University, winner of ETH Latsis Prize, a medal of the European Mineralogical Union and three awards from Elsevier for the most quoted works;
  • Rashid Sunyaev – Soviet and Russian astrophysicist, academician of RAS, Kyoto Prize-2011 winner;
  • Alexei Starobinsky – 2014 years Kavli Prize winner awarded in Astrophysics for revolution theory of “cosmic inflation”;
  • Andre Geim – 2010 year Nobel Prize winner awarded for the joint research of the thinnest material in the world – grapheme with Konstantin Novoselov;
  • Zhores Alferov, graduate of the Leningrad Engineering Institute – Nobel Prize winner (2000);

Names of Russian graduates are recognized worldwide. To name a few, Evgeniy Kaspersky, IT security expert, who is among the Top-100 global thinkers according to Foreign Policy magazine (2012), Doctor Honoris Causa of the Plymouth University (UK), Vladimir Krasnopolsky, a graduate of MIPT, who discovered an ozone layer in Mars’ atmosphere; Mikhail Lukin a graduate of MIPT, professor of the Harvard University and many others.
