Reddit – Dive into anything
This topic has probably been covered numerous times in the past, but I wanted to give my own opinion.
Now I know Music On Vinyl gets a lot of flack from purists, mainly because of the sources they use for mastering vinyl, quite often digital. There are instances when they do use analogue sources, such as the Rage Against The Machine reissues.
I feel the criticism is unjust (in my opinion). I have quite a sizeable vinyl collection, probably about 500, containing some titles from audiophile labels such as Mofi and Audio Fidelity, original pressings etc.
I have never got a bad pressing from MOV. In my experience the vinyl is always perfectly flat and silent with nice mastering (and affordable!). I think they tend to use Record Industry. I’ve even had a warped record from Pallas in the past.
Since AAA vinyl are quite rare and most labels are using high quality digital files anyway, not to mention a lot of MOV titles haven’t even been released on LP in the past, I think they are doing a great job.
What’s your opinion?
