The Spirit Of Play Is Strong In Calvin Klein’s Lunar New Year Capsule Collection

The Lunar New Year often means many things: a fresh start; time spent reuniting with our loved ones; and – whether one’s a fashion lover or not – the time to refresh and reset our wardrobes. And with house visits and gatherings back in full effect after two years of restrictions, there’s an even bigger reason to enter the Year of the Rabbit in style.

Helping us get this right effortlessly is American fashion house Calvin Klein with its youthful and upbeat Year Of The Rabbit collection. Spanning ready-to-wear; accessories such as bags, hats and watches; and undergarments (yes, the brand’s got every inch covered), this special-edition line puts an arty spin on the fluffy zodiac animal.

Calvin Klein’s Chinese New Year capsule features a running motif of a bunny as well as a vibrant palette of red, pink, gold and blue that channels the festive nature of the occasion. 

Cue the unisex t-shirts featuring rabbit prints with a distressed, airbrushed effect, giving the relaxed silhouette a Grailed-worthy vintage aesthetic. Or – for something more softcore with granny-chic appeal – the bubblegum pink cardigan contrasted with the same pattern in vermillion red. (Gen Zs would dig how the latter was styled in the brand’s lookbook, which was shot by the buzzy Shanghai-based fashion photographer Liu Song: with a bra top, baggy jeans and a bucket hat for an ensemble that scores even when CNY is over.)

To add to the Lunar New Year fun, Calvin Klein has created “Calvin Klein Adventure”, a Metaverse game on the virtual platform ReadyPlayerMe. Participants can dress their avatars up in pieces from the label’s Chinese New Year capsule line before taking on different challenges with three new ones to be launched weekly. For an even bigger treat, players can also earn points that can be exchanged in Calvin Klein’s boutiques and e-store for rewards ranging from exclusive offers to special merch.
