This La Roche-Posay Serum Blesses My Skin with a Plump, Dewy Look
La Roche-Posay Hylau B5 Serum became an instant ride-or-die for me the moment I first applied it back in late 2019. I loved it so much, I took it on the road with me — I’d traveled to Atlanta, Ohio, Accra, Port of Spain, and Panama City between November 2019 and March 2020, and at each and every stop, I had a bottle of this stuff with me. And no, it wasn’t the blissful pre-pandemic glow that was making me looking good in all those pictures I took along the way. It was the serum.
Hyaluronic acid has become a must-have ingredient for many of us who are looking for supple, glowy, moisturized skin. “Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that occurs naturally in the skin, [and] it helps to bind water to collagen, trapping it in the skin, so that skin can appear plumper, dewier, and more hydrated,” Tsippora Shainhouse, a dermatologist in Santa Monica, previously told Allure. The molecule has a knack for boosting hydration, so that’s why you see it in so many moisturizers. La Roche-Posay decided to combine the power of hyaluronic acid with that of vitamin B5, which in skin-care works as a great moisturizer.
This serum is formulated to impart serious moisture, and I am happy to report that it does what it’s supposed to. This serum blesses my skin with a super-moisturized base — perfect for layering on my favorite moisturizers and oils — and a dewy and plump look.
I like to apply this right after my toner, squeezing some into a dropper and then emptying it into my hands. I am sure to get both my face and neck, and if I use a whole lot, my chest. I let it sink in for a few seconds, and then continue my skin-care routine.
I am on my fifth bottle and before it runs out I will certainly be restocking.
You’ll find La Roche-Posay Hylau B5 Serum in the July 2021 Allure Beauty Box.
