Thor’s Lady Sif Actor Says She ‘Didn’t Have to Train’ for Love and Thunder
Thor: Love and Thunder star Jaimie Alexander recently opened up about the physical training (or lack thereof) that she underwent for the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster.
In a red carpet interview with Marvel Entertainment at the Love and Thunder world premiere, Alexander said, “For this installment, I didn’t have to train, and you’ll see why. That’s all I got to say.” Interviewer Erika Ishii quipped, “Oh, it’s because you’re just naturally a badass.” Alexander jokingly replied, “That’s right, that’s right. I’ll give you the money later.”

Alexander reprises her role as Lady Sif, whom she portrayed in two previous film installments of the MCU. She appeared in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor (2011), and its 2013 sequel Thor: The Dark World, directed by Alan Taylor. Fighting alongside the Warriors Three – which included the characters of Fandral (Joshua Dallas/Zachary Levi), Volstagg (Ray Stevenson), and Hogun (Tadanobu Asano) – Lady Sif has been largely absent from the MCU since these two films. Alexander guest-starred as Lady Sif in two episodes of the Marvel Television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in 2014/2015, but was nowhere to be found in the next theatrical film focused on her fellow Asgardians, Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok (2017). In this movie, the Warriors Three all perished at the hands of Hela, the goddess of death, with Lady Sif noticeably missing from the group. Citing a scheduling conflict during this time with her shoot on the NBC drama series Blindspot, Alexander still expressed interest in returning to her role as Lady Sif.
The character’s surprising cameo in the 2021 Disney+ series Loki was her first on-screen appearance in the MCU in nearly eight years. Alexander also voiced Lady Sif in two episodes of the Marvel Studios animated series What If…? (2021). Rumors had circulated in late 2020 that Lady Sif would appear in Love and Thunder, but this was not officially confirmed by Marvel Studios until May 2022.

This will be Alexander’s first time working with director Taika Waititi, the filmmaker that overhauled the personality and style of Thor’s storyline in the MCU. Initial reactions to Love and Thunder suggest that this creative atmosphere continues to evolve, with critics praising the film’s bombastic tone that manages to include moments of genuine emotion.
Thor: Love and Thunder opens in theaters on July 8, and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, and Christian Bale.
