Alexander Fleming was a microbiologist and physician from Scotland. He is best known for his discovery of the world’s first potent antibiotic substance, penicillin. He’s considered the “father of antibiotics” for his finding because without this it was impossible to treat many infections caused by bacteria.

As a young, ambitious scientist in London at the start of the 20th century, Alexander Fleming learned early on the power of observation.
