wear and tear – Buy the goddamn bag

I came across this video and thought I would share, and talk about my experiences with lambskin vs caviar.

When I first got into Chanel bags I had NO idea about the different leathers and how one differed from the other. When I got my Classic Flap, I knew that I wanted it in lambskin, because I love the soft, supple look of the leather. And I have not ever regretted getting the Classic Flap in lambskin. Even though the bag is 7 years old, it does not have a single, visible scratch.

As far as I know, lambskin was also the original type of leather that the Classic Flap 2.55 was made of, so that was another reason why I really wanted the lambskin. I have never had any issues with the leather showing marks or scratches, and this bag has been through some pretty hardcore evenings out on the town..!
Now, I also need to add that I do treat this bag with leather conditioner. I know that some people say not to do that, but I have seen such improvements in the appearance of this bag after conditioning it, so I will continue doing so.

As I have mentioned before – I did have some issues with the lambskin wallet that I got earlier this year. I felt (and still feel) that the leather shows marks very quickly. I’m not talking about scratches, because the leather is still very durable, but it does show marks immediately, from rubbing up against your bag or just from every day usage. Compare that to the small card wallet that I got in St Tropez this summer, which is in caviar leather, that appears to be indestructible. Mind you, the card wallet was bought brand new from the Chanel boutique, whilst the large lambskin wallet was purchased pre-loved, so obviously the age of the item affects the look of the leather, but I still feel that if I ever purchase another wallet, it will for sure be in caviar leather, since marks and scratches from every day use does not show as much.

Whatever leather you chose to go for, there are pros and cons.
Honestly, I prefer the look of the soft and smooth lambskin because I think that it is so luxurious. I did hear a rumour recently about Chanel slowly cutting down on the production of caviar leather items, but I do not know if that is true…

Do watch the video at the top of this post and let me know your thoughts.
What do you prefer – caviar or lambskin?
(Even if you don’t own any Chanel items, you’re still allowed an opinion!)
