Where Is Burberry Made? (If it’s authentic…)

Authenticating a Burberry item to sell on eBay can be very challenging.  The changes in logo, style, the nation of production, etc. can make it very difficult and even…dangerous.  Knowing where Burberry is made is a good first step since listing a fake can risk you losing your selling privileges, it always pays to put in your due diligence and make sure you are selling a genuine article.

Because many Burberry trenches, ties, scarves, etc are actually very high-quality fakes, it takes a good amount of know-how to be sure of what you have.  Use this guide as a starting place, watch some YouTube videos, and do your best to visit a Burberry store and get a feel for their style and quality.  Best of luck in your authentication endeavors!

Where Are Authentic Burberry Items Made?

Burberry produces items in China, Poland, Romania, India, Spain, Italy, England, and even in the United States. Burberry not only has its items produced in its own factories throughout the world, but they also contract other clothing makers in different areas to make items for them.

I have been selling Burberry for a few years and during that time, never had one complaint about the authentic nature of my items. They all have tags and we offer a 200% guarantee, we have receipts for all purchases. But today, faith has turned and one buyer did not want to see our proof, he thought he was well informed on Burberry and left negative feedback that just about made me die! It read: “Fake made in China!”

Knowing where Burberry is made, this comment angered me to the core.

Please don’t be alarmed such as this buyer who saw “Made in China” and sent a flaming red arrow in my direction.

Where something is produced often depends on what line is it part of.

Are Burberry Items Made In China?

Burberry produces large numbers of items in China. Notably, their Gold Line and many small bags and accessories are made there. A “Made in China” tag on Burberry clothing is, on its own, not a cause for alarm.

As much as we would all love to see everything made in Italy and England, it just doesn’t happen.

In fact, it has been many years since Burberry moved its production abroad.

I remember that there was a big fuss in England when Burberry closed one of its factories and moved it to China. I hate to tell you this but I worked on 7th Ave in New York City back in the ’80s and ’90s and most companies moved their manufacturing production to China or South Korea.  It’s just been a part of global sourcing in everything from clothes to cars.

Despite the spread of the factories, Burberry is still a respected well-made designer brand made all over the globe.

Where Burberry is made is not an indicator of either quality or authenticity.  There are extremely high-quality items made in China and other (equal quality items) manufactured in the USA.  Yes, there are many different ways to tell on their labels even how they are attached to the clothing, quality of the fabric, style, and many other things but—please when unsure and you are not the expert don’t just jump to conclusions.

Making assumptions can either damage the reputation of the person you are buying from, hurt your reputation as a seller, or lead you to leave something valuable on the rack while sourcing.

How To Authenticate Used Burberry Items

If you’ve read our articles about Buying Designer Handbags (including Burberry) on eBay, you’d know that your best bet is to buy from trusted sellers. If you are confident in identifying authentic Burberry items on your own, you may be able to find other deals but, in my experience, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

In the past several years we have bought literally hundreds of luxury items from the following sellers and have nothing good to say about them:

Now, if you want to work outside the trusted system and find a seller for yourself, there are a few things you can do to protect yourself:

  1. Ask for proof most items sold on e-bay are from Burberry outlets and department stores. So all sellers should have receipts.
  2. There is a Burberry legal department in New York City that handles claims if someone sells fakes, you can send the item to them for authentication. Selling fakes is absolutely illegal and they will prosecute. The Burberry sales associates are not allowed to say if it’s a fake or not. So taking your items to a store will not help.

Burberry Limited (trademark violation dept.)
444 Madison Ave
New York, NY 10022

I guess the summary of this would be, Burberry is made in so many different locations that where something is produced is usually not a great deciding factor on its authenticity.  So educate yourself on their other things to look for and best of luck!

Burberry is only one of the hundreds of luxury items that we regularly find at thrift stores and garage sales?  In fact, we didn’t pay full price for any of Kirstie’s Louis bags, my coach duffel, Salvatore Ferragamo loafers, etc.  We flip some on eBay but keep the rest for ourselves.  Check out our blog to see how we do it!
