WWE Has Dropped Plans To Reform Popular Faction
While hints were dropped in recent episodes of Monday Night Raw, it appears WWE has scrapped plans to reform the popular faction The Hurt Business. Between Omos’ push as a singles star and Bobby Lashley’s budding feud with Bronson Reed, the fact that Shelton Benjamin and Cedric Alexander haven’t been seen on either of WWE’s flagship programs is telling.
Backstage segments where MVP was seen talking with former members started the speculation. From there, rumors were that Carmelo Hayes was potentially a candidate to be added to the group, but his recent victory and successful win to capture the NXT Championship likely rules him out, at least for the time being. So too, Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE has dropped any current plans to bring back The Hurt Business. He isn’t sure why the angle was dropped, only saying, “They have started it and totally dropped it. Yeah, I mean, we haven’t seen MVP around. We haven’t seen Cedric or Shelton around, nothing,” Meltzer said.
It is intriguing that WWE has put this idea on hold. The last reports were that all members of the group were interested in reforming the stable. Even Lashley, who is already a top star and has little to gain was open to the idea and not a fan of the fact the group was disbanded in the first place.
Could The WWE Draft Change Things?
With the WWE Draft scheduled to take place in a couple of weeks, it’s impossible to rule out The Hurt Business being a group once again down the road. The odds seem slim that all of the members of that group will make it onto the same brand, but WWE might see the Draft as an opportunity to shine a light on the faction and give it new life. For now, that seems like a long shot and that leaves Alexander and Benjamin out in the cold.
